The pride of Linus Gitahi: Kenyan Runners

I just learned a lot of interesting facts about Kenyan runners on a blog run by Linus Gitahi.  In one recent post, he argues that Kenyans have genes optimized for creating great runners.  He cites the example of the Kalenjin tribe, which often sends young men to America for college on a full track scholarship.  It seems that evolution led in this direction because in this tribe quick running is necessary to keep control of family cattle herds.

It's especially interesting that Gitahi has written so extensively on this subject because he is primarily a businessman. Linus Gitahi is currently the CEO of Nation Media Group, the largest media corporation in Africa.  In the past, he led GlaxoSmithKline, a prominent pharmaceutical corporation based in Lagos, Nigeria.  It seems that Linus Gitahi has made it a priority to give back to his community and support his native country's athletes.  It's admirable that he shows this support and I wish more CEOs showed this kind of grassroots enthusiasm.
